About the Cluster

The Malvern Cyber Security Cluster was founded in September 2011 by Dr Emma Philpott at Key IQ Ltd. The majority of small cyber security companies in Malvern are located at the Wyche Innovation Centre and this is also where the Cluster meetings take place. However, Core Members are spread across Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire with Satellite Members from across the whole of the UK.

The cluster of cyber security companies developed organically over time in the Malvern area due to the proximity of skills and customers. The cluster became recognised when Key IQ convened a more formal network with regular meetings for the companies to particpate. Since that time, a number of partnerships have formed through introductions at these meetings and a number of common issues have been highlighted as problems affecting many small cyber security companies. The cluster is also engaging directly with local and national government to address these issues.

In 2014, due to demand from small cyber security companies across the country, the UK Cyber Security Forum social enterprise was spun out of Key IQ and founded to help volunteers start cyber security clusters across the nation. The Forum acts as a central point of contact for organisations who want to engage with the small, innovative companies and also facilitates lobbying from the small companies to the government about issues they face. The Malvern Cyber Security Cluster is now one of the clusters under the umbrella of the Forum.
